Portraits
My older sister Sarah is kind, generous, and empathetic. She is an incredible sister and has a huge heart for giving and always feels for me when I'm upset. Sarah is very laid-back and she is always willing to listen to me when I'm babbling on about some boring subject. The first picture took the longest. We received the toy from family friends. I think we did 20 or 30 reshoots because of where the drops of color ended up. Sarah would find fault with one that I thought was fine, but eventually we got the perfect shot. The second picture was essentially a musing of mine-what if I point the camera down our toy telescope on our playset and capture someone's face in the space? This picture was a quick take. I love that it looks almost fake, and it reminds me of a profile picture. I didn't like the chain in the middle at first, but the grass made for a better background than mulch, and I've learned to like the chain. It was very fulfilling to finish these portraits. When Through the Telescope was my last photo during Christmas break. One thing I wanted to focus on was the lighting. It was challenging to find the perfect lighting for what I wanted. In terms of focus, it was a challenge, but not because I didn't have focus, it was because there was too much focus power. The camera I use has autofocus, which was actually a hurdle I had to overcome. Sometimes it would selective focus on something I didn't want focused on. There is not a manual focus ring on my camera, so sometimes I would have to essentially fiddle with the zoom to try to get the camera to focus on the right thing. This meant my subject had to sit or stand awkwardly while I did this. It was always a yay! moment when the image popped up on my camera screen and it was focused correctly!
